As an always-on camera, the GR III has many strengths: it is handy and lightweight, its operating concept is clear and it takes pictures with good image quality. In the dark, the camera's image stabilisation helps to take blur-free shots. Its weaknesses are the slow AF system, a small battery and the high price.
In terms of quality, the Ricoh GR III plays in the league of compact system cameras. Thanks to 14-bit DNG RAW, the sensor potential can be utilised as far as possible. Ricoh has also harmonised the JPEGs well. The limitation to the fixed focal length is inherent to the system. On the other hand, a built-in flash, viewfinder and weather resistance are on our wish list for a GR IV...
