Safeguard your lens and absorb UV light. Film and video are more sensitive to UV light than our eyes are. This often shows up as a bluish cast in images, especially shots from high altitudes and long distances, particularly over water. UV filters are the most commonly used filters as they often provide better quality pictures. However that is not the reason why most photographers buy these filters. They use these filters to protect lenses as scratches on the lens surface are extremely annoying and sometimes visible in the photo. To reduce the chances of this screw a filter on the lens as it is cheaper to replace a filter rather than an expensive lens. A UV filter can always be left on the lens because there is almost no light loss.

Tiffen filters are made using our award-winning ColorCore technology, a process that permanently laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass, which are ground to tolerances of one ten-thousandth of an inch. These are then mounted in precise metal rings. This allows us to control the color and density of Tiffen filters, as well as the characteristics of special effect filters, with much greater accuracy than typical mass-colored filters, which usually exhibit color and density variations.

A circular polarizer has the same effect as a polarizer and is used with cameras that have beam-splitting exposure metering systems, commonly found in autofocus DSLRs.
Area of the sky that is most effectively polarized with a circular polarizer:
Point your index finger at the sun. With your thumb extended at a right angle (90°), rotate it around the axis of your index finger. It indicates the area of the deepest blue from horizon to horizon.

It's easy to see why Black Pro-Mists have been so successful over the past 30 years. The unique layering of contrast combined with a thin color that acts like a halo is a variation of the Pro Halation Spill effect. Even at the lowest density, it delivers effective and enhanced halo formation that adds a pleasant depth and warmth without affecting skin tone values. These characteristics become more pronounced when using densities of 1/4 and above. At higher densities, the spill from practical light is quite aggressive, and the warm tone becomes more evident.
