Best Thermal Grizzly products in the PC component tool category
On this page you'll find a ranking of the best Thermal Grizzly products in this category. To give you a quick overview, we've already ranked the most important information about the products for you.
1. Thermal Grizzly Ryzen 7000 Delid Die Mate
The Thermal Grizzly Ryzen 7000 Delid-Die-Mate is a specialized tool designed for removing the heat spreader from AMD Ryzen 7000 processors. This delidding tool allows for the preparation of the CPU for improved cooling through the Direct Die method. By removing the heat spreader, direct contact is established between the CPU cooler and the CPU dies, leading to optimized heat transfer. The tool was designed by Roman "der8auer" Hartung, a recognized expert in PC cooling, and offers precise and safe handling. Made from high-quality, anodized aluminum in black and red, it combines functionality with an appealing design. This tool is particularly suitable for tech enthusiasts and overclockers looking to maximize the performance of their Ryzen 7000 CPUs.
- Designed for delidding AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs
- Enables Direct Die cooling for improved heat dissipation
- Made from durable, anodized aluminum.

2. Thermal Grizzly Ryzen 7000 Lapping Tool
The AM5 Lapping Tool has been designed for grinding the heat spreaders of AMD's AM5 processor series. The tolerances of the AM5 Lapping Tool allow for a stepwise grinding of the heat spreader by 0.4 mm, up to a total height of 1.6 mm. When using the standard AMD mounting frame (SAM), a maximum grinding of 1.0 mm is intended until the intermediate steps are reached. An additional 0.6 mm is only possible if the CPU is mounted with a compatible AM5 Contact Frame, for example. The steps of the AM5 Lapping Tool are diamond-milled to achieve high transparency. This allows users to see which steps have already been reached and which have not during the grinding process.
Lower temperatures thanks to grinding the heat spreader: The American content creator and tech YouTuber JayzTwoCents was able to achieve temperatures up to 5 degrees Celsius lower with minimal higher boost clocks across all cores using a Ryzen 9 7950X and a 360 mm AIO. In combination with Kryonaut Extreme thermal paste, even 10 degrees Celsius lower temperatures were achieved. Even with a moderate overclocking of all cores of the Ryzen 9 7950X to 5.4 GHz, the test system remained 4 degrees Celsius below the temperature limit of 95 °C.
These temperature improvements from grinding the heat spreader are partly due to the heat spreaders of the AM5 platform. The heat spreaders introduced with Ryzen 7000 are thicker than the AM4 heat spreaders to ensure that AM4-compatible CPU coolers remain compatible with the AM5 platform. Additionally, the surface area of the Ryzen 7000 heat spreaders is significantly smaller at approximately 910 mm² compared to AM4's 1,300 mm².
Note on compatibility with AM5 motherboards: It should be noted that grinding the CPU will void the warranty.

3. Thermal Grizzly Delid-Die-Mate For Intel 13th Gen
The Delid-Die-Mate Intel 13th Gen from Thermal Grizzly is a tool designed for removing the heat spreader (delidding) on Intel processors from the Alder Lake and Raptor Lake series. With the so-called Direct Die method, the CPU cooler is mounted directly on the processor chip. By eliminating the heat spreader from the cooling loop, a significantly improved heat transfer from the dies to the CPU cooler is possible.
Why delidding and the Direct Die method for Intel processors? During delidding, or removing the heat spreader, the heat spreader of the processor is taken off. For non-soldered processors, delidding is typically used to replace the thermal interface material (TIM) between the CPU die and the heat spreader with high-quality thermal paste or liquid metal before remounting the heat spreader. However, since the Intel Core processors of the 13th generation are soldered, this is not an option, as removing the indium solder would create too large a gap between the IHS and the CPU dies.
Therefore, the Intel Core CPUs of the 13th Gen are primarily delidded for the potential mounting of the CPU cooler directly on the CPU dies. By omitting the heat spreader and mounting the CPU cooler directly on the dies, temperatures can typically be reduced by 10-15 °C when using liquid metal such as Conductonaut as TIM. A corresponding test with an Intel Core i9-13900K was conducted by content creator and tech YouTuber Roman der8auer Hartung, a professional overclocker and engineer.
Warning: Removing the heat spreader (delidding) of a processor is done at your own risk! Delidding the CPU voids the manufacturer’s warranty! Damage incurred during CPU delidding is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty!
