My Apple TV is connected to the Dream Machine and runs perfectly. With one method or another, it should work.

I can't say about Salt TV, but with Sunrise TV I had to connect the set-top box directly to the Sunrise mode and then the DreamMachine in parallel for the Internet and the other devices. I assume this is similar.
