The HDD is permanently installed, but you have the option of connecting another hard drive via USB, but only as a data transfer and not as an additional drive.

In general, the BeeStation is rather cosy on the road and really only interesting for data backup / data access via the router. Even larger files take time to transfer.
If you want a racing machine, a NAS might be the better solution.
