Question about Samsung 860 QVO

Can the QVO series disks also be operated in a NAS (e.g. Synology)? I ask: 1. speed gain? 2. power saving/low waste heat? 3. noise development? Many greetings

The QVO are unsuitable for large amounts of data, the lifespan is severely compromised, and the read/write rate is also no better than a good HDD for larger files. If you have a 10Gbit line, it's worth doing SSD nas, but only with the EVO series, which achieves better price/performance.

Hi Tobias,

The SSD should work in an SSD-compatible NAS. However, the QVO series is relatively slow in writing data. The EVO series is much faster here and may also survive more write cycles.

1) Often the limiting factor is not the hard drives but the network connection. If you have a normal 1Gbit/s (approx. 100MB/s) network connection, then - in my opinion - an SSD is not worthwhile if you intend to get more speed out of it.

Exception: Your NAS supports SSD as cache, then it may make sense.

2) Yes (approx. 3W instead of 6-8W) / Yes (both in IDLE and under load)

3) No noise development.
