Dear community, I am completely new to the topic of NAS. I only need my NAS for me and my wife with a maximum of 400gb of data. Most of the data are photos and documents for my studies. Is the Synology DS120 enough or should it be the DS220? And can I buy any brand of hard drive for synology or do I have to buy the same brand? Thanks in advance :) ps I know that putting commas and dots are not my strong point :(

Helpful answer
A big advantage of a NAS is probably the data security. This is particularly effective due to the redundancy in a 2-bay NAS. (The data is stored on two separate hard disks in such a way that it can still be read if one of them fails).
I can therefore recommend the DS220.
Synology devices are, in my experience, very tolerant when it comes to HDDs - different makes and/or different capacities can be combined. Nevertheless, I would recommend two identical disks.
