Do I need the Homebase for use with Homekit?
Normally yes for Apple, as otherwise some functions are not supported. A HomePod mini may be sufficient.
No, it doesn't need a homebase. Very easy to set up ;-) Have fun

I have 3 of these things and no homebase. They all run via the WLAN. The installation is really simple.
