Do I need to do a bios update to get it to run on my motherboard? B550 currently running a 5600x

Guessing into the blue, probably yes. The 5700X is very new and does not yet know your BIOS if it is already somewhat older.

But you can easily check this yourself. Check the BIOS version in the BIOS. Then go to the support page for your mainboard at the corresponding manufacturer. There you will find a list of supported CPUs and the minimum BIOS version required for the corresponding CPUs.

I rather wonder what an upgrade from 5600X to 5700X is supposed to do...
