Hello IanJ, unfortunately I can only say something about the performance. They run in a Lenovo Y50-70 UHD and work very well. I would buy them again.
With regard to Apple products, my experience is that Apple accessories are not necessarily required. I have often installed third-party products in Apple products and so far it has worked perfectly.
