Have the problems mentioned in the reviews been solved in the meantime?

I don't know. I still have the device, but in the meantime I'm running the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware on it because the ASUS firmware was so bad. With the latest Asuswrt-Merlin, the router runs quite well. 5 Ghz still seems to drop out sometimes, but it is far more stable than with the old ASUS firmware. I can't judge how good the new ASUS firmwares are as I have sometimes been stuck with Asuswrt-Merlin as the router also runs very stable with it. It happens very rarely that I have to press the reset button. If you are interested, here is the homepage of Asuswrt-Merlin:

November 16: Neither Merlin nor the original firmware can do anything for the router. Constant aborts and reboots. Hands off!

Never had any problems with this router after an original ASUS firmware update, very satisfied. Hardware should be rebooted regularly 1-2 per week (can also be configured this way).

In my opinion, it is running satisfactorily. Even if it is not perfect. The only thing I have to criticise at the moment is that the device crashes about every 3-4 weeks and has to be restarted. This statement still applies to the MerlinWrt firmware, which I'm pretty sure I'll stay with because it has much more frequent updates than the Asus firmware. AC runs pretty well with my devices.
