Hello, I have a few more questions before I definitely decide in favour of the Raidon. Can I insert an empty hard drive which will then be copied (I have 2 disks which are mirrored 1 to one & would like to make a copy every six months by removing one disk and inserting an empty disk and locking it up again in a fireproof place)? What file format (I'm on Windows) does Raidon work with? I also have a Synology where I work with BTRFS. Many thanks

Helpful answer

Hello,
According to the manual:
RAID 1: With this mirroring function, your two hard drives/SSDs will keep identical data after your work. If one of the two hard drives/SSDs fails, the GR3660 will still work properly with only one of them. Once you have inserted a good hard disk/SSD to replace the faulty one, it will do the rebuilding work itself.

I would not recommend using the RAID function as a copy function. I would also not recommend copying only one disc from a RAID array and using it as a backup medium. Either use Synology's own means for backup or copy the file system to a large disc via USB.

The following is suitable for copying HDDs 1:1 and is even cheaper:

LC-Power LC-DOCK-U3-V HDD Docking with copy function (USB B)

I use the Radion as a backup medium for the Synology, so I can make the 12TB on the two old 8TB in the Raidon (in JBOD setup).
