Hello, I'd like to upgrade to a 5G router for my home as I'm already sharing from my phone and the signal quality and connection speed are sufficient for my needs. I'd like to be sure about my purchase. This router has a slot for a SIM card and will then behave like my phone when sharing a connection? I imagine that reception and transmission will be better with a dedicated device, of course.

I read the following questions from your entry:

1. does the router have a SIM card slot? Yes.
2. can I share a connection like with a phone? No. With iOs and Android, you can share the connection with other people in different ways. With this router you have to do this in the configuration, which you can access on your phone with a web browser. Or you can create a QR login code yourself to achieve similar behaviour. You can print it out or keep it as a snapshot on a device of your choice for scanning.

I currently have this router unopened at home, which I would sell for CHF 250. A new one was sent to me and I cancelled my mobile plan in the meantime. I will put it up for resale online on Digitec as soon as possible.

Hello,

I've been using this device in a second home in France for several months now (because the local ISPs have really dodgy customer services and practices) and I'm delighted!
All you have to do is insert the SIM card, and the device then takes care of creating a dedicated 2.4-5ghz wifi network. You can of course configure it to suit your needs, but it's relatively plug and play (on the other hand, the complexity lies in the sheer number of options available on this device - it's an insider's toy, so if you're not familiar with it, leave it as the default!)
What you get is a router that acts like a conventional internet box. Only your IP address won't be fixed (it seems to me) because it depends on your connection to the cellular antenna from which you'll be getting your connection.
As far as transmission and reception are concerned, the speeds are equivalent to what you could get with your phone (with 5G and all the aggregation bands, you can go very high, only the upload won't be comparable to a wired connection, but that's not a major factor on a daily basis). So you'll need to experiment with which provider gives you the best connection (take a SIM card with no commitment from one of the three main ISPs (Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt) or their low-cost equivalent and give it a try!)
Finally, you can connect an aerial to this router, which you can install on your roof if you can, to direct it in the best possible way for an optimum signal!
