I am interested in this NAS. Do you know how many RAM slots are available? Why are only 2GB variants offered?

2GB are permanently soldered and there is a free RAM slot. Officially, the DS420+ allows or supports a maximum of 6GB (2GB+4GB).

The limitation is not caused by Synology but by the CPU.

But there are enough reports on the internet that more than 6GB is possible and also runs.

There is a RAM upgrade slot, which allows the NAS to be officially upgraded to 6GB, but of course an 8GB RAM module will also fit and even a 16GB RAM module. 2GB are installed as standard, i.e. 2GB are soldered onto the mainboard. By the way, it is a very good Synology NAS :).
