Question about Alpenföhn "Ben Nevis" Rev.C

I bought this cooler because I thought I could bring the idle temperature of my amd bulldozer fx8350 processor down from 70 degrees with the wraith cooler that came with it, but instead the temperature actually went up slightly...is it because I didn't apply thermal paste?

Hi gheine, I can only agree with gschwinds. Without the paste, the effect is much worse because the two metal surfaces do not fit together perfectly. The paste also mediates so that the maximum amount of heat goes into the heat sink.

Yes, thermal paste is necessary! With the Ben Nevis, the paste is not already applied to the contact surface at the factory, as with others, but is enclosed separately in a small squeeze bag. In addition, you should not forget to remove the protective film that is on the contact surface.

When replacing the heat sink, residues of the old paste from the dismantled cooler should also be removed completely.
