I don't understand the documentation very well and I'm having a bit of trouble finding my way around it. Is it possible to install a second M.2 2280 NVMe SSD in the second slot provided for this purpose without my GPU dropping from x16 to x8 or x4? Furthermore, I am hesitant to remove the heatsink to install an NVMe SSD that comes with its own heatsink. Is this a good or a bad idea? Please!

You can sefely use second nvme ssd slot without affecting your gpu AS LONG AS the gpu is sitting in the top most pcie slot and assuming you your CPU is providing 24pcie lanes (most of them are, with a notable exception of APU in which case it is already at 8x :D)

You dont have to use the heatsink provided by the mainboard. Just use the one from your ssd...

just keep in mind: if you use second nvme slot - it disables sata slot 5 and 6
