Question about WD Red Pro

I have 2 6TB in my Synology DS220+. I hear an HDD access every 2 seconds. I have also turned off everything on the NAS that can be turned off, and although there is no activity on the NAS, the 2 sec HDD access is always there. I now believe it is the HDD and not the Synology. Has anyone else had the same experience?

The keyword is "Preventive Wear Leveling". If I understand it correctly, the heads are moved at regular intervals when idle so that the disks do not wear unevenly. This feature seems to be present in most newer WD disks and presumably cannot be disabled. That it is not detectable in a Red Plus surprises me. I guess you'll have to live with it - since my PC is in the bedroom, I'm not extremely happy about it either.
