I have a Salt Fiber Box. However, the WLAN is rather poor, which is why I am thinking of getting this separate WLAN router... Does anyone have experience with this combination? Can I connect this device to the fibre box and thus replace the fibre box as a WLAN router?

This Asus router only has Ethernet connections and therefore cannot replace your Salt fibre box. The Salt fibre box also does not support bridge mode and therefore you cannot use the fibre box as a pure media converter. However, you could use this router as a pure Wifi access point. (You can set this in the setup of the Asus router). Depending on the flat / house, a mesh system can also be useful.
