Question about WD Blue
I have a Synology DS216. Since a disc is reporting errors and I am operating it in a Raid 1, I have ordered a replacement disc with the designation WD20EZRZ. A WD20EARZ-22C5XB0 was delivered. Synology now says that this disc type is not on the compatibility list and that data may be lost. Are these discs identical and can I use them in a Raid-1? Thanks for the feedback.

The WD20EARZ and the WD20EZRZ are not identical, although both belong to the WD Blue series with 2 TB capacity. The WD20EARZ uses CMR technology, as does the WD20EZRZ, but they are different model numbers, which may indicate differences in firmware or other specifications.
Since Synology does not have the WD20EARZ on the compatibility list and warns of data loss, it is risky to use this drive as a replacement in a RAID 1 array when a WD20EZRZ was originally intended. For RAID systems it is important to use exactly compatible drives to avoid data loss.
To summarise: The WD20EARZ is not identical to the WD20EZRZ and is not listed as compatible by Synology. Therefore, the WD20EARZ should not be used as a replacement disc in RAID-1 if the WD20EZRZ is the original drive.
