I have an old one from 10 years ago (WD40EFRX), transfer rate 750MB/s, the new one is supposed to get (only?) 175 MB/s, both at 5400rpm. Do I understand correctly that the new ones are massively slower than the old ones from 10 years ago?

According to the specs, the old one should be able to do 150MB/s, you can also test it at home, only SSDs can do 750MB/s and more.
