Question about ZTE MC801A HyperBox

I have been using the router for a few weeks now. Basically everything works. But sometimes the Internet speed drops completely to just a few kbits (possible several times a day). For the life of me, I can't explain why. Google, operating instructions & prayers have got me nowhere... Does anyone have a solution? Many thanks in advance.

As far as I remember there is an (default) option to disconnect from the carrier if there is no traffic (there is a timeout to it). In this case, the diode on the front panel goes off. Maybe this is the cause. Have a look in the router config.
