Theoretically, you can install the power supply however you want. However, the more power you draw from it, the more important it becomes that enough air can flow through the inlet and outlet openings. In addition, you will be drawing in warmer air from the inside of the PC than from the outside of the enclosure, which can/will cause the fan to run more frequently and at a higher speed.
