I read somewhere (can't remember where) that the connection (e.g. to the laptop) can be made not only via wifi but also via a cable and then the wifi can be turned off completely and thus no longer be visible. Is this correct and therefore possible? If so, with what kind of cable? Does it also work with an RJ45 adapter cable if you want to connect the Apple TV or UPC receiver with it (without WiFi)?

Hello Stephan, out of sheer "wonder" I tried it out briefly on my Windows 7 desktop at home. When connecting the Aircard 810 via USB cable, a driver is downloaded and installed. Afterwards, you can access the Internet on your desktop (or laptop) via the received GSM signal. This function is called "USB Tethering". Netgear even provides a Windows XP (!) driver. I can't tell you what this looks like with Apple products (some Apple devices don't even have a USB port any more ;-)

In this case, you can also switch off the wireless Wifi network and it will still work.

What does not work directly, however, is to connect the AirCard 810 to the computer via a network cable. The AirCard 810 does not have a network connection. However, there is an extension from Netgear called "Smart Cradle DC112A" and "Smart Cradle DC113A" (or similar), which serves as a charging station for the AirCard 810. An Ethernet connection is also possible there. But I did not test this installation because I do not have such a charging station at all - it is also quite expensive for the benefit it brings.

[Attention: I think there are two versions of this charging station, Digitec currently only has one of these charging stations listed in the shop].

The device can be connected with USB. Then you can turn off WIFI. Network cable is not possible. TP-Link offers the LTE router mr200, but please note that it does not have gigabit connections.
