I recently bought the XF 18-135. Right from the start, the zoom went a bit hard in the focal length range 100 - 135mm, as if the plastic was dragging on the body. The mirrors also rattle audibly. Since I have only had fixed focal lengths up to now, I didn't think anything more of it. Now, however, I have acquired the XF 100 - 400mm. It is smooth as butter and no mirrors are audible. Is it possible that the 18-135mm lens is damaged or do you also hear the mirrors when you move it?
I have had this lens for seven years and it works like the first day. The zoom runs cleanly and silently over the entire focal length range. When I shake it, which I never do with a lens, I hear mechanical noises, which NoApple thinks come from the lenses or the motor mechanics. I don't think that's why my lens is defective, because it still works fine. Maybe you should have yours checked.
Fuji does not build lenses with mirrors. There are glass lenses in them. When the lens is switched off, you can hear the lenses moving (because of the linear motor). This is normal.
