It hardly costs more than an internal SSD + case, and it's also much easier to handle (less than half the size!) and probably faster too.

Actually, any enclosure that can accommodate an SSD will do.
You have to look around for the product description of the enclosure.
I bought one from Digitus here for about CHF 18.
Works great on a 12` laptop on the road.

It doesn't matter, the important thing is simply that the maximum transmission speed is delivered.
