I would have to be able to monitor an entire room with it (from one of the four upper corners of the room). Therefore, I would have to be able to align the camera in such a way that it is not only at a 90° angle, but can be aligned at a full 360°... The camera does not seem to have a real ball-and-socket joint (with which that would be possible) (but I have only been able to see it in pictures)....

The camera has a ball joint and can be aligned well. I have mine in front of the entrance and it is at a 90 degree angle, so it is a vertical image, because I don't need a wide image.
