I would like to improve my computer a little. At the moment I have a 6th generation i7 and the Maximus VIII Ranger motherboard. Now I would like to know if I can use this CPU with my mainboard or if I need a new mainboard because of the generation. The socket would fit.

No this mainboard with Z170 does not support the 9th gen processors, see
