Yes, that's it. You need to power the two sockets on your motherboard in the top left-hand corner. Because if the second cable is not powered and your card is very demanding, the lack of current can be fatal to your processor.

Depending on the mainboard, there is more than one pure 12V connection for the power supply, sometimes 8+4 pin and rarely 8+8 pin - therefore it then needs 2 cables from the power supply.
