I'm sorry, I've already asked a lot of questions about different optical drives but I'd like to make sure I buy the right one. I have a DELL XPS laptop with only USB Type C sockets but I have a "splice" cable that allows me to plug in a "traditional" USB stick or a device with a "traditional" USB socket. Is it possible to connect this drive with my patch cable?
Hello,
It all depends on the XPS model you have... I made the same purchase of an XPS that has USB 3.0 type A connectors, so it is necessarily downward compatible (USB 2.0 on the drive), so there is no need for the Thunderbolt 3 cable (USB type C). But just in case, it is also usable, downwards compatible... The transmission speed will be set by the least recent of the interfaces, i.e. the one of the drive, USB 2.0.
