Is it correct that from this model onwards (DS220) a max. storage volume of 108 TB is theoretically already possible? So certainly larger than 16 TB? With earlier models (DS218) it was max. 16 TB.

Helpful answer

So in the specsheet it says:
- Maximum size for single volume: 108 TB
- Maximum number of system snapshots: 65.5365
- Max. internal volume: 64
Here is the link: https://global.download.synology.com/download....
You can find everything on the Synology site

The theoretical size of a maximum of 108 TB per volume is not relevant for the DS220+, as it is not intended (in contrast to the DS720+, for example) to increase the storage pool by means of an expansion unit (such as the DX517 expansion unit). This means that only the two internal hard disk slots, in which (according to the compatibility list) a maximum of 18 TB can be installed, are available. Since no rational person chooses JBOD or RAID 0 mode (i.e. striping) for their NAS, the DS220+ can be operated in RAID 1 mode, which gives a net volume size of 16.4 TB (with 18 TB disks). If you need more storage space, you should choose a different model.
