I think it works if you have the appropriate adapter plug (microUSB to USB, if your phone still has a microUSB port...).

The answer comes a bit late but better late than never ;)

It is possible to connect the hard drive directly to OTG-capable smartphones and operate it via this.

First, however, you have to register the hard drive on your PC or Mac.

According to our own research, this hard drive can only be used with PC or Mac systems. (Latest version of Windows® 7, Windows 8 / Mac OS® X 10.5 and higher)
