Is the adapter for the Hero 5 absolutely necessary to be able to connect a mic with USBC? I don't think so, do you?

I don't have a microphone with a USB-C plug, so I can't make the attempt, but unfortunately I'm afraid it will only work with this adapter. I personally use it with a mini-jack microphone and it works very well, although the requirement to use this super-expensive adapter has always annoyed me a bit...
