I have several of these hard drives. They are incredibly noisy for me as well. I have two password-encrypted with APFS formatting. It can take 5-10 minutes for them to show up in the Finder on the Mac. I would still recommend them, because from my point of view the only alternative for so much storage space would be a NAS, and I don't really feel like maintaining a NAS.

Quiet under normal circumstances. If the platters are hardly filled, you hear a rattling sound when writing, which is quite normal for an HDD. On an oldie, of course, the drive can't show off its speed.

Not compatible with Mac. A disaster.
