My 970 EVO Plus got between 50 and 55°C hot during operation. So I mounted a Cooler ICY BOX IB-M2HS-701 on it and now the M.2 gets 45-47°C warm. But what I notice is that the chips on the M.2 are not all the same height. The memory chips are the highest, the controller is medium high and there is something very low in between. Thus, the ICY BOX cooler does not have an optimal contact surface despite the thermopad. Furthermore, I don't know whether I should remove the adhesive on the M.2 before mounting the thermopad on it. Will it make a difference in terms of temperature? Or is there a better solution than the ICY BOX, for example with a heat sink where the contact surface has different heights?
Hello Atm01, I have installed four such bars, Samsung 970 EVO Plus, on my board, Asus Maximus Extreme XI. After 12 hours of continuous operation, they have an average temperature of 41.5 degrees. This seems to me to be the normal temperature for such SSDs. I think it's more likely due to the fan system on the case with the corresponding supply and exhaust air. But 50 to 55 degrees is not a critical issue.

Mine is very rarely below 70 degrees on the Maximus IX Formula behind the quasi-sealed plastic cover.
- I would also be more interested in the system temperature. It should actually be around 40 degrees.
- Stickers that do not serve as protective films should not be removed.
- Last but not least, Samsung states that the operating temperature can be up to 70 degrees. With just under 55 degrees, you are still within an acceptable range.
