The Synology j series NAS are in general not very powerful. Such a NAS is ok for basic backup needs, but because the j series lack RAM and processing power, it is highly recommended to go with a plus or play model. Additionally, I would recommend a 4 bay NAS from Synology, because of better expansion optioms than you get with a 2 bay NAS. Either the DS418 or the DS 420+, these are much more powerful solutions that come with at least 2GB of RAM and are much faster than j series NAS solutions.

After your rant about the cheapest Model from Synology that has the little 512MB (0.5GB) RAM, where as every Smartphone has x times more. What are you using instead?
