This Panasonic DVD player freezes when playing on the new Samsung Smart TV, but --> it runs perfectly on old Philips TV --> and our old Toshiba DVD player runs perfectly on the new Samsung Smart TV What could be the problem?

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer either. I am completely satisfied with the device. Two good ideas have already been given!

...sometimes it also helps to simply reverse the cable

Try using a different HDMI cable. Possibly also try a shorter cable or try a different input socket on the TV.
