Warranty period only 2 years? Shouldn't the warranty period match that of the manufacturer? According to WD's product information, the manufacturer grants a warranty of 5 years on all "WD Red Pro"! (3 years for "WD Red" and "WD Red Plus").
I have just received mine. The following applies for Germany (Switzerland may be different):
The legal warranty is 1 year. Within this period, the goods must be repaired (after expiry of the 14-day right of return without formalities) or, if not possible, exchanged. Proof of any invalidation of the warranty due to misuse must be provided by the seller(!).
In the second year, the seller's legal warranty applies throughout Europe (Switzerland may be different).
Here, however, if the seller objects, the buyer(!) must provide proof that the warranty claim is justified (i.e. photo, witnesses, etc., useful in the event of a case).
After that (third to fifth year) the limited manufacturer's warranty applies. In this case for WD (as of the date of this letter): bulk products are covered by a 5 year manufacturer's warranty from the date of purchase.
For OEM products, the manufacturer's warranty may be "null and void". Therefore, I wanted to point out that you can enter the serial number in WD's support portal (with the product name) and you will get the manufacturer's warranty displayed and confirmed, if necessary. And lo and behold: Galaxus delivered - in my case - excellent goods, at an excellent price! The manufacturer confirms the guarantee for the product until 2026.
Consequently, nothing to complain about.
The terms of the manufacturer's warranty can be read on the service portal. Mostly they are limited to replacement if no abuse (falling, mechanical destruction, fire that did not start in the hard drive, etc.) took place.
So: with my order, perfect price, well packaged and full manufacturer's warranty confirmed. What more could you want.
...will surely be adjusted soon when they notice! That was also the case with WD Gold.
