Will this SD card fit in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019)? The specs state that the tablet only supports up to 512GB. Is this because at the release date of the tablet there were simply no SD cards larger than 512GB on the market? Or is it really no longer supported?

You can check on Samsung's official homepage how much additional memory your device supports at most (more than written there is not possible). If a larger card is inserted, I don't know whether only part of the memory is available or whether the card is not recognised at all, but my guess is the latter):
