With this device, do I now take the internet reception out of the socket and then have wireless reception or does the data run the other way round?

You get 2 devices.
1 device (not on the photo) must be plugged into the socket near your router and connected to the router with a lan cable.

Then you can plug the second device (pictured) into a socket in another room and connect a laptop or PC to this device with the lanCable or set up a wireless network.
