Hi, no, you don't necessarily need Google Home, but you do need the WIZ app. Should be very simple in principle: 1. install the WIZ app 2. connect the lamp and switch it on 3. search for new devices in the app (should find the lamp regardless of your WLAN - first a network connection is only created between the phone and the lamp). 4. only during the setup process will the lamp be integrated into your own WLAN. From then on, you can control the light via the app. Google Home is recommended, then it works via voice control and you don't need your mobile every time.

With these requirements, you are alone with the wrong product. As soon as you pyhiscally interrupt the circuit (at the switch itself), you will no longer be able to switch on the light with the app until you press the switch again. What you need is an app-enabled LAMP with a built-in dimmer. I have the Xiaomi Mi, for example, which would work. Go to "table lamps", filter for "dimmable with built-in controller" and your smart home (Google, Alexa, Siri...), then you're right :)
