Its unusually curved shape, designed by Finnish designer Maria Kivijärvi, is not without reason: The stainless steel blades are pressed vertically through cakes or cream cakes. The cut-out cake pieces are gently picked up by the tongs and land safely and upright on the plate as the pressure from the cake server eases.
