Vectran is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP), similar to spider silk, which is spun from molten Vectra liquid polymer and processed into multifilament yarn. Like spider silk, Vectran is very tear-resistant and at the same time lightweight.

The Grand Prix 5000 is a "classic" in Continental's road bike tyre portfolio and scores well in almost all test criteria. Puncture protection and rolling resistance are both in the upper mid-range. However, at 338 grammes, the GP 5000 is one of the heaviest tyres in this test field.
