Sinus filters limit both the voltage rise time (du/dt) and the peak voltages at the motor winding. Similar to an output choke, they allow for the connection of longer motor cable lengths. Additionally, bearing currents are significantly reduced. Therefore, it is possible to operate standard motors with standard insulation and without insulated bearings on Sinamics. The voltage stress on the motor winding is thus nearly at a level comparable to direct grid operation. Due to the very low voltage rise times on the motor line, the sinus filter also has a positive effect in terms of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
