The alarm output activates when the sensor's excessive gain diminishes in low light conditions (drop to 1-1.5x). The load for both outputs must not exceed 150 mA. The fixed range units compare the reflection from objects illuminated by the sensor's light beam with two differently aligned detectors in the sensor head. This allows the sensors to detect an object that is only briefly positioned directly in front of another object or background, with this distance potentially being just a few mm. Retro-reflective models feature a special lens that polarizes the emitted light and filters out unwanted reflections, enabling these sensors to be used in situations where retro-reflective scanning would otherwise not be possible.
