Lurtz was bred at an accelerated pace by the fallen wizard Saruman beneath the tower of Orthanc and is the first of a new generation of orcs sent to attack the Fellowship at Amon Hen. These fighting Uruk-hai are large, broad-shouldered, and fearsome, capable of covering long distances without rest even in bright sunlight. Lurtz leads a scouting group of many dozens of these beasts, who keep a watchful eye for any signs of their prey as they hunt for the Hobbits amidst the forests of Parth Galen.
