The surgical disposable masks of type IIR EN 14683: 2019 consist of three layers of non-woven fabric, each serving a specific function. The outer layer made of spunbond technology is water-repellent and provides strength to the mask. The middle layer made of meltblown technology acts as a particle filter. The inner layer made of spunbond technology protects the face by avoiding direct contact with the middle layer that serves as a filter. The fabric used (non-woven) is treated with an environmentally friendly agent that is virus- and water-repellent. It carries the international environmental certification GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). A surgical mask should generally be replaced after 6-8 hours.
