It's best to buy BOTH ; ) Depending on the type of shoes (sneakers<>trekking shoes<>moonboots) one or the other will fit. PS Shoe sizes refer to your feet, this has nothing to do with the outer dimensions of the shoes...

I ordered shoe size 45 and 44-46. I can wear them on normal trainers and also on larger winter shoes. The horizontal Velcro strip at the back of the heel is approx. 4-5 cm wide and is therefore flexible.

From the heel to the top edge is 25 cm. Splashes: I don't know, I only wear them with rain trousers.

No, the "shoe" is largely open at the bottom. It only has an elastic band at the bottom so that you can slip in with the actual shoe.
There are two. So one per foot ;-)
