Sanctuary AI introduces sixth generation of the Phoenix robot
The Canadian company Sanctuary AI wants to create the first human-like intelligence in a general-purpose robot. It has now unveiled the sixth generation of its Phoenix robot.
Founded in 2018, the Canadian robotics company Sanctuary AI wants to make our future friends fit for everyday life among humans. With the aim of creating the first human-like intelligence in a robot, it has developed the AI control system Carbon and the robot Phoenix. Its sixth generation is now available to marvel at. However, apart from a handshake, this video does not show how human-like it already acts.
Human-like thinking should enable robots to work more safely, efficiently and sustainably. Phoenix weighs 70 kilograms and is 174 centimetres tall. It can walk at a speed of around five kilometres per hour. As it is also designed for industrial work, it can carry a weight of 25 kilograms. To enable him to grip, his hands each have five fingers with twenty degrees of freedom. It also has something like a sense of touch.
The Carbon AI control system is designed to ensure that Phoenix can do everything a human can do. It is designed to make him universally deployable - for example by translating voice commands into actions. Sanctuary AI uses deep learning methods, reinforcement learning and world simulations based on our physics for training.
Phoenix can be seen as a Tesla bot competitor, as Elon Musk also has the goal of using his robot universally. However, Phoenix is already a little further along, as Tesla is not yet talking about field tests. The previous generation of the current Phoenix already demonstrated in March how good it is at cleaning work and labelling, picking and packing goods.
What Phoenix is up to is regularly shown on Sanctuary AI's Youtube channel. Among other things, he is also busy in the kitchen with a sandwich.
