4k@60 Hz should also be feasible with HDMI 2.0. HDMI 2.1 is backwards compatible with HDMI, so an HDMI 2.1 cable should fit the connection.

Hello, I use the Asus VG289Q with 4k, once via DisplayPort and once via HDMI. Both work. You hear/read on the net that you should use the DP if possible, as more data can be transferred that way. Do you have a docking station with DP? Otherwise, the screen does not seem to be recognised correctly. Hmm...
