Zyxel WAP3205 v3
Zyxel WAP3205 v3
This model of Wifi antenna is no longer made by Zyxel (Wifi 4), it dates from 2016! I recommend a Zyxel NWA50AX (Wifi 6) as a replacement. It's more expensive, but more secure, Wifi 6, can do VLAN for Guest etc.. Very versatile. It's a bit more expensive (80 CHF at Digitec), but easy to set up.
Hello, I don't know how much it matters which router you have, but I'll try to explain it to you. You want to place the Zyxel WAP 3205 v3 somewhere else without being connected to the router with a cable. So, so to speak, to extend the Wifi signal. Have I understood that correctly? If yes, then connect the repeater to the power and with a LAN cable (in port 1) to your laptop/desktop. Then you should open your browser and enter 192.168.1.2. This should take you to the Zyxel login page. Then enter admin and password 1234. Then select Universal Repeater in Mode and follow the steps in the installation wizard. If you can't get to the login page via 192.168.1.2, look in the network settings and renew the DHCP. I had to do this because it simply did not check it itself. I hope you can get on with it. Otherwise watch this Youtube video, it might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSud3PYKePs&t=430s from 6min 10sec Greetings
This is useless because it is an access point that you could connect to an existing router to connect a device to the LAN. To set up a WLAN, you need a WLAN repeater, e.g. this model is ideal, it is inexpensive and also has fast Gbit connections. With it, you can set up a WLAN, which the Sonos speakers can then connect to. Xiaomi Mi Router 4A Giga Version
Almost, according to Zyxel itself the latest firmware is V2.00(ABDM.5)C0 and was released in March 2022. ( https://www.zyxel.com/global/en/support/download?model=wap3205-v3 ) However, according to Zyxel, this AP is already end-of-life: https://www.zyxelguard.com/Zyxel-EOL.asp (Ctrl+F and search for "WAP3205 v3").
DHCP can be switched on
Yes, the unit has a built-in switch.
Hello, 1,5m Kind regards.
I see no reason why this should not work.
In this case, please contact our customer service directly so that your request can be checked. https://www.digitec.ch/de/information/contactinformation
This is an AccessPoint, not a router. These are two completely different things. An AccessPoint usually does not assign any IPs so that it does not get in the way of the router (which usually assigns the IPs). I.e. how the IPs are assigned depends on your router. If you don't have a router and thought this was one, then you must have misunderstood something.
I don't have any Sonoff devices at hand to answer this conclusively, but I think it has to do with the settings. According to my brief research, Sonoff devices use 802.11 b/g/n which are quite old standards (the former two in the 2.4GHz band). Modern routers have switched off older WLAN standards for security reasons but also for better performance. I have the same problem e.g. with my Garmin GPS with which I cannot connect via WLAN to the new WLAN AP optimised for speed - but it works on the WAP3205. The WAP3205 series also supports the 802.11 b/g/n standards, so I assume that it will work without any problems.
In my opinion, it always depends on what is to be played and whether the device is used as a repeater or as an access point. I used the device as an access point and was always very satisfied. However, I only streamed and did not play games. However, I think it is not advisable to amplify the signal via a repeater for games where fast response times are important, as this always massively reduces the bandwidth.
Yes, that is possible.
This is probably possible if you switch the Zyxel to client mode. However, reasonably up-to-date Swisscom TV boxes can also use WLAN...
You might want to mention the intended use, as this unit has four different operating modes. It is certainly compatible as an AccessPoint, ClientMode too. Repeater very likely, Bridge probably.
With me it was 1m long
We replaced the AP for that reason.
I don't think that will work, I recommend an Acsess Point with ethernet interface and possibly a switch.
I can't get to the website http://192.168.1.2 to enter my password and language. Can anyone help me?
what's happening ? are you getting an error ? Is the device connected via LAN and the address 192.168.1.2? with the user name: admin and the PW: 1234 The best thing to do is to configure the device on a laptop that you enter a fixed address 192.168.1.10 so that you are in the same area and then you can access it to configure it
Yes, I used the device briefly as an Ethernet switch and WLAN access point after the router. However, due to the relatively poor (transmission) performance, I then changed to an ASUS RT-AC86, which has a massively better performance.
Access points are basically completely independent of the router used in the network...
Yes, that is what the device is designed for. Connect the device with the Ethernet cable that brings the Internet signal from the router. Log in to http://192.168.1.2 via a browser (default ip for the WPA3205 v3) and configure the device as a pure access point. Then just assign the SSID and the WLAN password. You can use the Wizzard for the configuration.
